Difference between Vinyl and Polypropylene Adhesive Tape
| Among the most common questions that our customers ask is the difference between polypropylene tape and vinyl (PVC) tape, and which of the two is better for packaging. Both these adhesive tapes can be custom printed and come in different colours. They each perform well in most circumstances.
Polypropylene and polyvinylchloride (PVC) are base materials used as the backing of the respective packing tapes. Next, adhesives are applied to the backing to give sticking power. These can be acrylic, hot melt or natural rubber glues.
PVC adhesive tape is often referred to as vinyl packaging tape. With its 32mu film thickness, the tape used to be the generally accepted bench mark for self-adhesive tapes. Among the characteristics of vinyl adhesive tape are its low-noise, slow-release and easy-tear features. It is also smoother than polypropylene tape.
Low noise polypropylene packaging tape is similar to PVC tape when it comes to its silent-release feature. The most obvious difference is that you are recommended to cut it using a tape dispenser as it is difficult to tear manually.
However, this polypropylene tape with acrylic adhesive is more environmentally-friendly due to its water-based adhesive.
Generally, most people consider vinyl packing tape as superior to polypropylene packing tape, except when it comes to price. Although both tapes are efficient, vinyl tape is often valued for its quality and polypropylene tape for its affordability.
